Internal Restoration & Additions to Queen Anne | North Coogee

A Randwick Heritage Item

This Queen Anne styled heritage home was a challenge to satisfy the owners design brief due to heritage constraints as required by Randwick Council. The owner bought the property in a un renovated state which suffered incremental additions & various makeovers unsympathetic to the original style.

New Traditional Styled Kitchen

A design was chosen requiring demolishing a rear internal wall, fire place & chimney to provide a long enough wall for a contemporary styled kitchen. This design was closely reviewed & approved by heritage planning committee.

The owners preference was not to install an island bench as they didn`t have the occupants numbers in the home to warrant it & they preferred to dine within the kitchen area. The design is adaptable for inclusion of an island at a later date.

The owners instructions were clear, make the kitchen more habitable & renovate the ground floor bathroom & add a new bathroom to the 1st floor. The owner made additions to the scope as building work proceeded. Recycled wide oregon floor boards were used in the kitchen & rear room to closely replicated the existing floor.

New retaining wall & external ampitheatre stair were constructed in sandstone & handrails added

A bay window box was added projecting into the rear yard. This feature was designed to accommodated a washing & preparation bench in close proximity to the wall ovens.

Living room with white walls, hardwood floors, two white armchairs, one gray leather sofa, glass coffee table, decorative lamps, a wooden fireplace, a window with a Buddha statue on the windowsill, and a chandelier on the ceiling.

Interior Makeover

A small porch with a red brick floor, potted plants, and a black handrail. The porch is framed by a red wall and a beige lattice fence.

New Internal door sets were added to close off rooms for better thermal efficiency while making a more consistent styling.

Bathrooms remodeled in a contemporary style

Exterior Makeover

The front of the home was repainted in authentic colour scheme with a new authentic timber fence & gate of suitable styling matching the original home.

A New authentic tessellated tiles were added to the entry & slate stair treads replaced.
